Peshawar: Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, head of the Pakistan Awai Party, held a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, where he emphasized the need for the judiciary, military, and political leadership to come together and reflect on the state of the nation. He criticized the decision to shut down the capital for a gathering of just five thousand people, stating that this would lead to disappointment among the youth. He warned that using power and authority to suppress the public is fostering distrust among the people.
Abbasi pointed out that political leaders are more concerned with their positions and power than addressing the hardships faced by the public. Shahid Khaqan remarked that those who claim to be champions of democracy have attempted to pass amendments under the cover of darkness, with the aim of consolidating power and exerting control over the judiciary.
He highlighted recent legislation aimed at preventing public gatherings, criticizing the current government for ignoring the voices of the people. He urged the government to listen to the public’s concerns. Abbasi also recalled that in the past, political arrests were made and individuals were imprisoned for political reasons, asserting that such actions were wrong then and remain wrong today.
