Maulana Fazlur Rehman Criticizes Parliament’s Mandate for Constitutional Amendments, Calls for New Elections and Political Freedom

Peshawar : Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has stated that the current parliament lacks the mandate to make constitutional amendments. He termed the proposal for such significant changes from a “fake” parliament as unjust. During a press conference in Peshawar, he emphasized that the struggle for the liberation of Al-Aqsa Mosque will continue, warning that the fire in Lebanon could engulf the entire world. He urged Arab nations to recognize that Israel has instigated war and that without a collective defense system, the flames of conflict could spread to everyone.

Fazlur Rehman expressed his desire for new elections, asserting that the current parliament is not entitled to make such major amendments. He criticized the notion of legislating from a “fake” parliament, calling for shared proposals between the Pakistan Peoples Party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, and his party that would provide relief to the public and strengthen democracy. He insisted that there should be no compromise on the autonomy of the parliament.

The JUI chief remarked that neither the central government nor the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government represents the public, claiming that their mandate has been stolen. He highlighted that the province is currently engulfed in turmoil and lamented that the situation for the people of FATA is dire, stating that they were better off before integration. He also noted that there are enforced disappearances both in his province and in Balochistan.

Furthermore, he condemned the prohibition of political gatherings as undemocratic, stating that denying Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf permission to hold a rally is a form of injustice. He asserted that political activists should not be obstructed in their efforts.
